Congratulations Drexel’s newest Whitaker International Scholar – Chris Bawiec!
Chris Bawiec (PhD Candidate, Biomedical Engineering) will begin his 2-year Whitaker Postdoctoral Fellowship in September 2015 at the Université Claude Bernard in Lyon, France. The research will be performed in the Laboratory of Therapeutic Applications of Ultrasound (LabTAU), a part of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) that employs researchers specialized in biomedical technology, acoustics and ultrasonics.
At LabTAU, Chris will participate in ultrasound research related to Dual-mode capacitive Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers (cMUT) for the development of image-guided ultrasound focal therapies of localized tumors. Through a collaboration between LabTAU and three industry partners, Chris will use cMUTs to help develop new therapeutic strategies for image-guided ultrasound thermal therapy of localized tumors in the prostate, liver, lung and brain.
The Whitaker International Program sends U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) graduate students and PhDs overseas to undertake a self-designed project that will enhance their careers within the field. Along with supporting grant projects in an academic setting, the Whitaker International Program encourages grantees to engage in policy work and propose projects in an industry setting.
